Wednseday 10:00-13:00 - The Art of Listening - Oluwadamilola Abdulai-Apotieri
The Art of Listening is a workshop that invites improvisers and facilitators to rediscover one of the most essential and often overlooked skills in both performance and life: truly listening. In improv, we’re taught to say “yes, and,” but authentic improvisation begins before the words with presence, attention, and care. This session focuses on how deep listening can transform not only our scenes, but our relationships and creative processes.
Participants will explore playful, interactive exercises that heighten awareness, empathy, and responsiveness. Through silence, gesture, and attentive dialogue, we’ll examine how to listen with the whole body, not just the ears. The workshop blends elements of Applied Improvisation, mindfulness, and ensemble work to help participants slow down, tune in, and connect more deeply with their partners and the moment.
Past participants often describe this workshop as grounding, eye-opening, and surprisingly moving. It helps improvisers discover that listening is not a passive act, it's an act of love, collaboration, and artistry. By the end, participants leave with sharper awareness, stronger connection, and a renewed sense of curiosity about the stories unfolding all around them.
