Friday 10:00-13:00 - Vocal Toolkit - Athina Valantasi Mantellou
The voice is one of the most essential tools for any actor, improviser, or performer in the theatrical arts. It is the instrument through which we create characters, bring scenes to life, and connect with our audience. However, improper use of the voice can lead to strain, injury, or long-term vocal issues, affecting both performance quality and endurance on stage.
In this workshop, we will explore techniques to train, strengthen, and refine our voices, gaining better control and clarity in speech. We will learn how to project effectively to large audiences, maintain vocal stamina during long performances, and protect our voices from strain. A key focus will be on proper breathing techniques, which are essential for vocal support, projection, and stamina. Through targeted exercises, we will discover the importance of breath control, warmups, resonance, and articulation, while also examining how our voice can influence scene dynamics. Additionally, we will develop techniques to sustain and preserve our vocal health over time.
This workshop is open to improvisers, actors, and performers of all levels who want to develop a stronger, healthier, and more expressive voice on stage.
