Wednesday 10:00-17:00 - Parallel Improvisation - Nick Byrne
In most improvisational performances, we are used to one scene replacing another, with transitions of varying kinds, helping this to go smoothly, or we perform physical, organic shows where group activity dissolves into smaller scenes, and the extra performers may provide scenery, soundtracking, etc.
This workshop breaks these models to discover what it is like when no-one leaves the stage. How can we remain useful on stage without needing to leave, when the focus shifts to another scene? Do we always need to do only one scene at a time, or can several things be occurring and still be satisfying for the audience?
In this workshop, you’ll explore a range of physical devices, that allow you to bring more depth and flow to performances, by utilising your spatial awareness in entirely new ways, and capitalising on the full-time availability of other members of the ensemble, without them needing to choose to assist you, or understand what your scene is about.
