Saturday 10:00-13:00 - The Art of Saying Nothing - Oluwadamilola Abdulai-Apotieri
The Art of Saying Nothing is a hands-on, practical workshop that explores the creative power of pause, silence, and presence in improvisation and communication. Improvisers are often trained to respond quickly, but this session teaches how to slow down, notice subtleties, and let scenes breathe naturally.
Participants will engage in interactive exercises, partner drills, ensemble games, and reflective practices designed to build comfort with silence, enhance listening, and strengthen timing. Through guided activities, attendees learn how to pause before responding, respond thoughtfully, and use stillness intentionally to heighten tension, humor, and emotional impact.
The workshop encourages risk-taking in a safe space, allowing participants to experience the transformative potential of saying nothing. Improvisers consistently report feeling more present, grounded, and connected to themselves and others. By the end of the session, participants will have practical tools to incorporate pauses, silence, and thoughtful listening into their improv, teaching, or daily communication—showing that sometimes less truly is more.
